FAQ

What’s the difference between SSD and Trigger?

SSD5 is a MIDI based sampler that offers the features of a live drum kit in a virtual instrument. It is meant for those who want to program realistic-sounding drum patterns through MIDI. It also works great with most electronic drum sets. It comes with 15 GB of drums, cymbals, and percussion samples.

Trigger 2 is a transient-based drum replacer, that is designed to work with audio tracks. It is meant for those who want to trigger samples from live drum recordings, either to reinforce or replace existing drum sounds. It comes with over 2 GB of samples of snares, kicks, and toms.

I don’t play drums. Which product should I get?

If you are new to building drum parts, start with SSD. Not only will you get hundreds of the world’s best drum sounds, you’ll also get 2,600 production-ready MIDI Grooves just waiting to drop into your track. These grooves are played by real drummers, so you’ll instantly get authentic, emotional performances to bring your songs to life.

You also get the all-new Groove AI, our intelligent drum assistant. Groove AI analyzes your song, finds the key transients, and instantly recommends a MIDI Groove that will work perfectly for your song. And the Morph knobs let you tweak your beat even more to make any pattern match the properties of your song even more precisely.

Trigger lets you easily replace individual drum instruments in a recorded kit with crystal-clean samples of the most legendary kits in all of recording history. It’s the perfect tool for quickly swapping-out drum sounds from an OK-sounding kit to an incredible-sounding kit.

So while you don’t need to play drums to use either SSD or Trigger, the right program depends on what you want to do– program and build drum parts using step sequence, MIDI grooves, and automation? (SSD!) Or replace recorded drum parts with incredible-sounding drum instruments? (Trigger!)

How exactly does Groove AI work?

Groove AI is our new intelligent drum assistant. Groove AI analyzes your song, finds the key transients, and instantly recommends a MIDI Groove that will work perfectly for your song. And the Morph knobs let you tweak your beat even more to make any pattern match the properties of your song even more precisely. Build your entire song, including intro, verses, choruses, and more, by just dragging & dropping each groove to the Build lane. When you’re ready, drag it over to your Arrange window. Bam– instant drum track.
